We are hiring multiple candidates to oversee the proper functioning and operations of a Emergency Family Shelter in Des Moines, Iowa. Under the direction of the Shelter Coordinator, shelter staff are responsible for the day-to-day operations of the shelter while providing a safe and secure environment for the families we serve. Primary responsibilities include assisting families as needed, meal coordination, maintaining cleanliness of the facility, providing accurate and timely documentation, monitoring for safety, and ensuring compliance with shelter rules and regulations.
Part-time hours to include evenings, weekends, overnights, and holidays
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Education and/or Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent with 6 months to 1 year of experience working in a residential facility, shelter, or similar environment. College courses in human relations, social work, or similar fields desired.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
This position is required to do light to moderate physical work. To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the individual is regularly required to stand, walk for some periods, use hands and fingers, communicate, move, frequently required to position self to stoop, kneel or crouch, reach with and use arms and hands as required in using standard office equipment and a PC. Individual must be able to frequently lift up to twenty-five pounds. Specific vision abilities of this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to focus. The work environment for this position is a residential environment with a moderate to loud noise level.
Ability to successfully pass a child abuse registry check and criminal background check, and requires completion of the Protecting God’s Children VIRTUS training session.
May be required to work additional shifts outside of schedule, including overnights, weekends, and holidays.
